Can't Run From A .38, Go Ahead And Try

Argentine national elections just occurred. A few days ago, I asked one of the students at the Universidad here who her favorite candidates were, and with the characteristic pessimism of someone inhabiting a country with a decidedly less-than-stellar electoral history, she said "None of them--there are no good candidates, merely some that are less terrible than others." In the end, the winner was Cristina Kirchner, the wife of the former president, in a situation plainly exhibiting the barely-disguised dynastic and nepotistic rule typical of South American nations. Thank goodness nothing like that could ever happen in the USA!

Thank god.
