A Brief History of Bloemfontein
It’s time for Bloemfonteiniacs!
Fought Ndebele attacks!
From the west Cape they made tracks
They eat koeksisters for snacks
Those Bloemfonteiniacs!
In 1854 they founded the Orange Free State
When Major Henry Warden (that’s an Englishman they hate)
Was recalled back to Cape Town, and shipped home in a crate
The Boers were loosed, without ekskuus
This story I relate
Of Bloemfonteiniacs!
M. Steyn’s beard trimming was lax
They don’t export any flax
Carry biltong in their slacks
On Bloemfonteiniacs!
‘Round the turn of the cent’ry British wanted back the land
The Anglos fought the Boers near the river called the Sand
A veldfire cooked the English, General Prinsloo made a stand
But he was whipped, by then Brits gripped the whole Witswatersrand
From Bloemfonteiniacs!
Eventually freed; not so the blacks
To Apartheid they reacts
Now legislation they enacts
They’re Bloemfonteiny, don’t receive much rain-y
